View Full Version : What do you use as a pantry?
<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->We have a floor to ceiling built in cabinet that we use as a pantry. It has slide out shelves and is handy, but not quite large enough to really stock up well.

Right now I'm using a handbuilt bookcase in the kitchen. It's not big enough to store everything I have. DH made 2 heavy shelves for the other house that we brought with us that I'm going to put in the basement to put canned goods on.

We have a built in patnry in the kitchen. It's a little smaller than I'd like, but it works for us!
My stockpile goes in the basement on shelves that are built in.

For the last year or so, I have been using my linen closet as a pantry and it is working out great, because I can divide my stock into categories. Ergo I find stuff very quickly.
So far the discipline of keeping track is sorely lacking, but we have developed the system of "take out the last of something, put it on the shopping list".;)

for the moment under the microwave, LOL, but soon there will be a huge 5x7 walk in pantry to house my new freezer, when I buy one, and all pots and pans and canned goods, or anything else I can stash in there comfortably.

Our home used to be a barn in the 1500's so although it's kind of the house that Jack built, we like it. I have two cabinets above and two cabinets under the kitchen counter with a pantry to the right in my kitchen. I have two big cabinets under the sink that I use too. And a spot where a dish or clothes washer is supposed to go I guess with a counter on top of it that we use to store large items like big bags of potatoes and onions because it's dark and cool there. The pantry has four sections to it with two doors. I store cleaning supplies on the top so that our small son can't reach them.

Wow that's old, I'd love to see pics of your home. Your kitchen sounds like one that was on a tv show that was on a couple years ago (2004 the first series) called The Farm that was set in the UK.
It's amazing how big our kitchens have become here in the US & in other parts of the world. Do they really need to be that big?
Yours sounds simply wonderful Sweet. :)
I would love to see pictures too please:D
I am using our linen closet on the main floor and we have a cold room where we keep our freezer which has shelving and bins just off the family room downstairs. I do however need to get stocked up again
