looking for tips on handling mail

Here's our system: The mail is brought into the house and whoever brings it in stands at the kitchen island to sort it. Junk mail goes straight into the trash, bills go into a shoebox designated for that purpose, and catalogs/magazines go into a pile to be read later. Unfortunately, the shoebox and magazine pile usually both stay on the counter top-- we need to find a new place for those! About once every other week or so the remaining pile gets purged and tossed.

It's not fancy, but it works for us. :)
