Every year, DH and I host a turkey dinner for our friends. I think this year we had the division of labor down to a science, so I wanted to share what works for us, and see how everyone else handles a big dinner.

I get up early (7 or 8, depending on how long the turkey has to cook) and make the stuffing, stuff the turkey, and put it in the oven while DH is still asleep. When he wakes up, he makes the last minute run to get things we've forgotten While I'm home I'll get out all of the serving pieces. After he gets home, we both do a final cleaning/re-arranging of the house. Then he cooks the squash, potatoes, any other vegetables, puts out the cranberry sauce, etc. Then he takes the turkey out of the oven for me. I go ahead and make the gravy and we all eat. After we've all eaten, then I make the desserts (pecan pie and apple crisp). Since only one of us cooks at a time, the other person who isn't cooking is free to visit with all of our friends, and we both get to eat together.

This is has been our game plan for three years running, and every year we get better and better at it. What is your game plan for big dinner entertaining?

I like to cook, so I pretty much do all the cooking. Noone else here likes to, so they appreciate my doing it and they do all the table setting and clean up. Works for us!

Division of labor? That's foreign to me. LOL
