So, when we redid our downstairs bathroom, I chose an apricot color, but now that I look at it, we all look a little sallow and yuccky in the lighting. It's going to be Julia's bathroom when she's a teenager and I think she'll not be pleased.

But, I'm stuck. I don't know much about colors. The floor is an almond tile and the shower and toilet are also in almond. The vanity top is almondy and the wood is a light maple color.

Do you have any advice, because I could use some! (Dh is going to kill me for wanting to change the color!)

Amy, I like basic colors, so I would go with an eggshell or almond shade (light one) and then do my decorating with accessories. That way you can change the look without having to go through the painting process again. ;)

We like eye-catching colors in the bathrooms. The one we are remodeling we just painted a color called kingston aqua.

Ours are done in the neutral tones and I have tried to add color with the border, shower curtain, etc.

Pat brought up a good point - if you don't have glass shower doors, then a vibrant shower curtain is an excellent way to bring color into the bath. We prefer glass shower doors in all our baths so we choose to use striking color on the walls instead.

You are so right Kim, because I don't have shower doors, I wasn't even thinking of them. LOL

I decorate with shower curtain, window curtains and make the toilet seat and tank cover. I also make (generally crochet) my rugs to coordinate.

Actually I make all my home dec items, I haven't purchased any curtains, drapes, rugs etc... in so long I know I would be shocked at the prices.

This allows me to change things frequently. Oh I do purchase the shower curtain liner but I have found them at the dollar store. :)

My favorite color is green. Having said that, the original owners of our home painted everything green and pink. Our bathroom is the ugliest green color around and because its so small, it makes the room even smaller.

Great thread Amy. Maybe I can find a lighter color that really fits in that room.

We do have shower doors, so we're locked in there. I like the idea of an almondy color for the walls, but dh is concerned that it will be too bland. I'm not the best decorator, so it may be a hard sell that I can "make it come alive" with decorating, but I'll try!

If you stay with a neutral color, bring in vibrant color in the floor rug, bath towels (do you have enough room to display a wicker basket full?), a vase of fresh flowers, candles, etc.

I'd go to the paint store armed with a swatch of your almond colour and check out what goes well with it. I'd definately paint over the apricot because it's too similar to the almond. You probably need to look at the blue or green range - both excellent colours for a bathroom.

I like apricot. :D I think peach tones, apricots, and terra cottas are soothing and warm.
Can look here:

It can give you some ideas for colors to go with apricot. I'd have to see it to offer any suggestions.

I'm partial to green. I think a light green on the walls, green towels (both light and dark), green rugs (dark) would look good.

You could also incorporate your DD favorite color in very easily with green, and be able to update it often. If her favorite color is purple, buy a few purple towels, some with purple flowers (and green stems), ect. Green is such an easy color to work with.

Don't really have any advice as I'm not good at this stuff. Our bathroom, besides being old, is currently a dark pink rose color. I'm planning to repaint in white and decorate in tropical fish kind of stuff.

It seems the most expensive items are all a sort of neutral Almond ( I am guessing that what you call "Almond" is a shade from from the "cream" family of colours?)

If that IS the case then I would suggest you " go with the flow" and do the walls as close a match to the ceramic tile/Bathtub etc as possible.

This gives you the chance to choose your new "accent" colour" ( if indeed you want to)..........some of the classiest places decorate in shades of the same colour to very good effect ;)

I am happy to answer direct decorating questions if anyone wants my advice ( I am not so arrogant to assume that is the case, just to let everone know the offer is there :D .........)

Anyway, good luck with the decorating! tell DH paint is the cheapest form of change within the home ;)

Trust me I am a designer!

I would go with a green color! I'm doing our new bathroom in Forest Green, with almond colored accents.

Well, my bathroom is very light brown with darker brown trim. We decided on this after trying two different colors in there- they looked horrible. Our tile had a nice light tan in it, so we went with it, and it looks great. We have an ecru battenburg lace shower curtain, and a border that has gold and black in it, which goes better than it sounds. (And if it was clean right now, I might take a pic for you, but it isn't. So maybe later!)

If you decide to go with the almond from the tile, you might be surprised how good it can look with some darker trim and a nice border- I was in my bathroom! :D

We are redoing our bathroom. New doors, new tub, you name it! I painted our walls Sky Blue 3 from American Traditions paint I got at Lowe's. Honestly, at first, I didn't like it, but now I love it! I haven't completely decided on the colors to match, except I did buy a picture from Home Interiors to go on the wall that has the blue init, yellow, a green, and an orange-that I love.
