View Full Version : I need this recipe
But it's got to be justttt riiiight. LOL
I am craving a bread boat and dip. I'll hold off until maybe Thanksgiving. But I have got to make it this year. It's been on my mind a few times and I can't seem to shake it.
Have a good recipe for this? Not even sure if I want a pumpernickel, rye or what type.

Boat or bowl? And are you ISO the bread recipe or the dip or both?
Boat? Bowl? ugh. Not sure now. I always called them bread boats. The bowls to me are the breads that hold soup or salad, but makes perfect sense if it's called bowl. LOL You're asking me, the person who is lucky to get the names of my kids matched up right without listing them all before I get the right name.
Here's a pic:

I'm thinking it's regional to call it a boat. LOL I had to do a search to make sure I hadn't gone totally mad on the name.
I see some recipes. I think the one I like has sour cream and possibly chipped beef? I forget what else was in it. I only need the dip recipe. I'll buy the bread.
This might be the one.
Bread Boat Dip
1 (16 oz) sour cream(save container)
fill sour cream container with mayonnaise
place both in a bowl
1 jar of dried beef (if you want more 2 jars)chopped up
2 teaspoons of dried minced onion
2 teaspoons of dill weed
Mix all together and refrigerate for about an hour.
Hollow out the bread bowl of your choice and spoon the dip inside.

As far as I know they're called bowls here, but who knows? I'm a hermit these days LOL
I know my sil brought one over a couple of years ago, and it had some kind of sour cream and spinach dip in it.
I'll have to pass on the chipped beef LOL Not sure why that's always given me the heebie jeebies
It sorta creeps me out, too. I always think about sh*t on a shingle and stuff like that. I also don't remember actually eating the beef part in the dip. LOL Maybe I shoved it aside? How funny. Maybe there's one that is similar without the beef. I just remember it had it in it and a slight dill taste, too. Spinach sounds good.
