We live in a home built about 1908 or so. It has been remodelled, but the wiring is still kind of oldish. It has a lot of room (huge living and dining rooms), 3 smaller bedrooms, 1 bath with no shower only a tub. We are needing the roof redone as it leaks badly in the kitchen and the previous owner put carpet in kitchen and bathrooms (worst places for them), hard wood floors elsewhere.

Most of the outside of the house on 3 sides is enclosed porches...a big right angle porch covers 2 sides and makes a great playhouse/schoolroom for the girls as well as a place for me to sit and look at the garden or write letters.

Does need a lot of work and we are wanting to move somewhere else perhaps the country to get away from house, neighbors, traffic.

On the up side, it also has a smaller 2 bedroom house on the property that rents for $250...pays most of our house payment.

Hi Debbie,
Older houses are neat but have their own special problems.Ours isn't as old as yours (1940) but we just replaced our roof a few years ago, this year we work on reglazing & painting the outside of the windows. I would especially love your porches.:)
Have you been in this house long? Started looking elsewhere yet?

We live in an old Victorian home, over 100 years old. We renovated by taking off all the plaster and lathe, making 6 inch walls and insulating. As we did that, dh put in all new wiring. He got a book from the library, studied up on it and had it passed by a qualified electrician. We still have a bit of the old wiring.

We also replaced most of the windows and all of the doors.

We love our home which is in a small rural town of under 450 people.

Where do you think you might look?

We've been in this house since we bought it June of 2000 so that is a bit over a month shy of 5 years.

We have looked at a few houses around town. We'd like to get the one right next to my parents (they just had to let go of their 2nd house in a bankruptcy). It is 11 room, 4 bedroom, great dining/kitchen area, carpeted mostly lots of pretty rose bushes they put in....we couldn't get it approved to buy it and rent out this one also.

We are trying to get out of debt so we may be able to get it approved to do later. Especially if I can start to work.

We also live in an old house -- most likely 100 -- 110 years old. We have a long list of things we need/want to do to the place --- but the money just isn't there. We only have 5 - 6 years left on the mortgage, so I hate to take out a second mortgage or refinance.
