He is 17 and the slowest moving kid I know. He does have autism. However, it takes him a good hour to get ready in the morning, at least 5 mins. to climb the stairs, a full hour to wash the supper dishes, etc.
Everything the kids does is in slow motion. I liken him to a turtle, although the turtle would probably win the race.
How do you motivate a slow moving teen?

I don't pretend to know, but I've heard having music playing (peppy music) and also playing games (see who can get things done first or pick up the most, etc.) is a good way to involve kids in housework...or perk up your own spirits doing housework.

Reward of some sort (aka bribe) more time with you, fav dinner, music etc. He needs to know what's in it for him. Everybody who's asked to change some behavior wants to know what's in it for them, myself included.:)
Or I'd just go with it, knowing this is the way he is and save my battles for the real important stuff. Not that some of this stuff doesn't drive you nuts.;)

I have no experience with autism teens, but considering that, I think what he's doing is in good time. Has he done them faster before?

Josh is 18 and you could have just as easily been describing him. He has always been this way. He even eats slowly. My husband is the same way. It drives me crazy!! I have yet to find a way to motivate either of them and have simply decided if it gets done and done properly, I'm going to have to bite my tongue.
