UGH, when our realestate lady showed us our home, she said the railroad close to our home was seldom used. She mentioned once a week and seldom not even that. Well NOT!!
They go past our home a couple times a day and often 2-3 times a night. Days isn't bad other than our house shakes like crazy. You don't want to be in the bathtub when some of them go by. The waves might drown you. :D
Anyways at night they go by and usually around 2 -3 in the morning and they lay on their whistle. Now I know there are rules. Having said that, do they have to blow FOREVER!!!! Its so bad that we can't leave our windows open at night because it sounds like the train is going through our home.
Anyone else with similar problems?

The nearest one to us is a mile from our house. I am very noise sensitive so I can hear the train going by in the night if we have the windows open (so the windows don't get left open LOL). I rarely hear the whistles and don't recall hearing it at night either.

We have one a few blocks from our house (1 1/2 or 2), but it isn't bad. Just rock cars mostly....maybe once a day usually daytime.

The closest traintracks is about 2 miles from the house, it is used very regularly, and I LOVE to hear the train whistle in the night. The sound makes me feel extremely cozy.
No train whistles here, but I've lived near a firehouse before. :D

oh, I hope in time you will learn to love them. To me there is nothing sadder or more hopefull sounding than a train in the middle of the night. I love it!!
This is the first time in my life that I am to far away from traintracks to hear them reguraly and I miss it so much. I used to lay in bed everynight and hear the whistle and know that no matter what, I'm not alone. To this day I smile everytime I hear one. I hope to move closer to traintracks next house.

We live 1 block from a rairoad crossing where they back up and hook up to other cars. I miss the sound if I sleep somewhere that I can't here one. I must just be so used to it. ;)
Good golly NO!
I worked on the railroad and would NEVER live close to tracks. The noise and fumes are 2 of the things I miss the least! :D

There's one a half of a block away you will get used to it I still hear it at night and could swear it was going to come right through the house. But that's ok it's a normal sound to me now

AS long as I can remember, we've lived near tracks. I used to live directly across the street from some! I think they were only about 20 ft. away. I got used to it, and the sound of the cars rolling on the tracks actually helped me sleep!
I forgot. We also have the chemical emergency sirens that blow every so often too. (testing) They test so often that I'm not sure anyone would react to an emergency. ugh

There is one not far from here, and sometimes on quiet evenings, we hear it go by. But it certainly is not so loud that it disturbs our sleep. I hardly even notice it anymore.
Bright Blessings!

We hear them ever now and then, but not like we use to. As with the planes flying overhead, I guess we got use to it.
If I go away for a few day's I'll notice them again when I first get home.

I grew up living near railroad tracks, so I am used to the sound. Lots of times, I don't even notice the blowing of the train whistles. My grandfather's old house ~ now my uncle's has the railroad tracks at the end of his front yard. Even when I used to spend the night there as a child, I didn't notice the train whistles.

we always seem to live by train tracks, a firestation, or an air port. right now we are by the airport and firestation. out of the 3 i prefer the noise of the train tracks. when we lived by the traintracks, the whistle would wake me up but i'd fall right back to sleep. now i wake up for no reason and can't get back to sleep :(

CJ that's terrible! I would have given that realitor an earfull! There is a train that goes by my work everyday. I don't mind it so much as it goes slow enough not to shake the building. When it's very quiet at night, I can hear the same train from my bedroom window whistling in the distance. I live about two miles from work.
