I sort sorta like this

Sheets

Towels

Jeans

Whites (underwear, socks, tees)

Colored things (tees, underwear, shorts, etc)

Delicates

I wash everything in cold water right now, but that is because the hot water inlet hose has plugged up and it is "waiting" to be unclogged. Normally, I would wash most stuff in warm/cold, with delicates all in cold.

I'm about like everyone else. Hubby is better at sorting and keeping machines going though. He often does that while I fold and put away.

Since ds and I both have bad allergies (especially dust mites!) I have had to wash as much as I can in Warm water. We do:

Underwear, socks, and dh's undershirts + any other plain whites in HOT

Colored boxers, black socks, dh's black undershirts + any other warm colors

Care tags for cold

Sheets and comforters all washed on at least warm

Towels all washed on at least warm (anyone know if I can wash on hot?)

I don't seperate delicates, because my front loader makes it so I don't have to, yay! (Or I've never had a prob with it anyway)

Everything is washed in cold and most everything is hung to dry. When Jack does his own laundry it goes in the dryer. Also anything that is crocheted goes in the dryer.

I always sorted them this way:

1. Whites
2. Delicates (mine and DH's work clothes)
3. Everything else clothing (jeans, t-shirts)
4. Misc - bedding, towels, etc.

DH has been doing the laundry for the last month or so and he just separates them into "lights" and "darks". We're using a front-loading washer so I don't freak out as much if my delicates go in with his jeans if they're both dark.

dd has decided that she will do her own laundry......she is almost 18 so I let her do hers seperately.....she needs to learn!

I sort by
Bedding
Towels (colored ones)
Whites
Colors
and sometimes just jeans...Not normally though.

DH had an issue with how I did his laundry, so about four years ago I told him to do his own, and IF I was asked to throw something into the general laundry, he could not get all whiney about it....So far it has worked great.

kitchen towels and dish cloths
towels and sheets
my clothes
darks and lights

i have to wash mine by themselves or at least seperate from dh's cloths because of having to use a detergent that doesn't bother my skin, but dh thinks it doesn't clean as well. dks cloths can get mixed in with mine if i need to make a full load, but i can't mix mine and dh's. his usually gets done last on washing days so i know mine aren't mixed in with his.
