My oldest and youngest weren't too hard. It wasn't a big deal to go to sippy cups. My middle child (oldest girl) was never on a bottle. I nursed her (probably way too long, until she was 2 years 4 months but only at nap time once a day for a few minutes by that time) and she never would take a bottle at all.

Not at all, I cut it down to just at nap and night and then one day quit giving it to him....no fuss... he does suck his thumb so that probably made it easier to get rid of the bottle.

Mine was pretty easy-- I thought it would be so hard! We cut it down to nap and bedtime, then a week or so later to just bedtime, then after about 2-3 weeks, just stopped the bedtime bottle. She didn't fuss at all. She was a month or so past her first birthday when she completely stopped taking bottles.

Both of my girls went to a cup pretty easily. I think part of it was I always gave them their formula ar room temp, so they weren't used to warm bottles. Cold milk didn't seem so startling for them I think.

It was not that hard for any of them.. DD1 was about 18 months old, had just bit through her last nipple and I told her she had to throw away the bottle and be a big girl... She did just that and never looked back. DS1&2 were nursed long enough they went straight to a sippy cup.. DD2 I simply just gave it to her less and less... I nursed her a long time too.. DD1 was only nursed for three months-had to go back to work...Good luck.. It takes some time, but it will happen. ;)

I thought it was going to be much harder than it was. DD was about 19 months old when I finally bit the bullet. We did it cold turkey--she was pretty good about it. She cried for her "ba-ba" at naptime/bedtime for the first 2-3 days but then soon was over it.

I only wish I had done it sooner!

Now...I just have to figure out how to get her off the pacifiers! ;)

My third was the easiest out of the three. On his birthday when he turned 1 I took the bottles and threw them all in the trash. Ever since he has been weaned. I thought it would have been hard but he seemed to like the sippy cup much more.

DD (two on May 8th) stopped taking her once an evening bottle of EBM when she was ten months old. I was working 5 nights a week then, 5 hours a night, and I was so tired of pumping. It was very frustating for me as I had to pump at least 2-3 times to get 4-6 ounces of milk. One night she just wouldn't take the bottle for DH, and then again the next night, so I told him not to offer it again- I jumped on the opportunity when it presented itself.

She did, however, continue nursing until two weeks before her 2nd birthday.

Andy Debbie, FWIW, I don't think 2 yrs 4 mo is too long. The WHO recommends a minimum of two years, and so does the Canadian government.
