A couple days ago Oprah had on a world renoun heart specialist and he said even before cholesterol numbers, our blood pressure is the most important.
He said the normal b/p should now be 115/75. Oprah said not even the 120/80 anymore. He said no because so many are at the high end going to 130/90.
Ladies, get that b/p checked!!!
If you can imagine one lady in the audience's b/p was 250/125. Its a wonder she wasn't dead!!!

btw - that lady was not overweight and looked really healthy!!
Did anyone see the show?
No I don't get Oprah. But I have my b/p checked everytime I go to the doctor's. About 6-8 times a year. Last week it was 112/60. :D

Whenever I want. We have a cuff and hubby and I both know how to take it. He was a CNA/CMA for nursing homes.

Thanks CJ. My b/p is usually lower than that, but since I have been on meds, it has come up a bit. After my hysterectomy my b/p was so low, they thought I was bleeding internally. Thank goodness I wasn't, just me being normal. LOL

My problem has always been low blood pressure. I usually run about 80/60. I remember when I was trying to prevent delivering, I was on a blood pressure LOWERING med to help stop contractions... my BP was 60/40! Needless to say, they reduced how often they gave it to me!

I always do that free machine at Target while waiting for my prescriptions to be filled. Mine is always really good. Other than that, I have it checked once a year at the dr's when I go for my physical :)
I saw that Oprah show.....I just love Oprah :) and yes, to me that lady looked like the picture of health, you just never know. I have had high blood pressure now for the past 5 years and I have been on high blood pressure pills for the past 2 1/2 years. When I first found out that I had high blood pressure I had gone to the dr. cause I kept getting an earache in my right ear, my right eye hurt as well as my throat, I thought it was an ear infection as I would get dizzy alot too. When I went to get some antibiotics for this I just went to a walk in clinic and the dr. said that my ear and throat were fine and I had high blood pressure....I informed the dr. that was impossible as my blood pressure in the past has always been 120/80 . I made an appointment and saw my family dr. and he said yes it was up and I was to monitor it once a week. I had also gone from 136 to 157 pounds in 6 months.....so I kept monitoring it and it was always around the 157/98 etc....well when we moved to a different province 2 years later my new family dr. told me it was high and sent me for blood work.....My blood work was fine except that it showed that I had hyperthyroidism which speeds everything up in your body including blood pressure and alot of times people will loose weight depending on their intake of food but I was still gaining....now I was about 165 lbs. The next blood work came back ok. The highest my blood pressure was in one reading was 179/126 and that is when the dr. put me on my pills.
I thought if I could only lose weight well now in about 1 year I have gone from the 165 lbs to 148 lbs but my pills are still working right for me , I was hoping if I lost that extra I could go off of them as $46 a month adds up even though we have medical insurance and get back 80% of the payments not to mention that I don't even like to take tylonol. The dr. thinks it might be heredity as heart problems/high blood pressure etc are on both sides of my parents.
I just keep plugging away.....slow but sure trying to lose this weight just in case.
