This site really involves folks using treadles, and I'm not but it's interesting and I found a method of joining prequilted squares w/o having to handstitch.
That way I wouldn't feel so overwhelmed, and could easily make it smaller a wallhanging or something. Even completed w/binding, then joining them.
The joining-binding tutorial is here.

There's also a strong tote for hauling a sewing machine.

Great site.

I'm looking at the joining the quilted blocks. I'm wanting to do that with my dd's wedding quilt. I don't have time to hand quilt it (she didn't give us enough notice) and its going to be just too large (king size) to use my machine to quilt it. thanks for the link, although I'm not sure I'd do his method to quilt the blocks together. I'm not sure I really like it.

I always machine sew my quilt pieces together. I do the quilting part by hand, but I generally tie or else use candlewick/crochet thread to sew layers together.
