I'm ready to cream this dog. She is English Springer/black lab. Well the lab is coming out in her the older she gets. She digs everywhere. She is now digging under the our driveway which is paved.

And to top that off, she loves to chew on any small branch she finds.

Natural instinct... Dogs in general love to dig. I was told after we had our boy neutered it wouldn't be as bad... Now it's 10 times worse! i can only let him out long enough to do his business.

My dogs hide food in holes. They also hunt. So they dig looking for things.

My dogs dig alot!! I havn't found a permanent solution yet, but these few things have helped:

1. Dogs dig when bored. I went to garage sales and bought up all the stuffed animals I could find for them to play with - thus keeping there minds away from digging.

2. Dogs will bury bones if they have to many. I limit the amount of raw hides I gave them when I saw them burying one. Now they only get one (each) every two weeks.

3. If all else fails - put dog poop in the holes. THis will stop them from continuing to dig in THAT hole.

I know how incrediably frustrating this is - my back yard is torn up from these two, espically since Jasmine is still a "puppy". I planted a dogwood tree last year and Jazmine ripped all the lower braches off, and I'm not sure if it's even going to survive.

Good luck!! :o

Also does good to put pepper in the holes and fill it back up. Next time they dig they get a snoutful of pepper!

My lab would dig all the time the first year. He dug a big hole in the back yard and would dig up all my flowers. He doesn't do it anymore. He's 7 now. It was just that first year. He has worn several paths in the backyard.
