I am having an electrical problem and it has been giving me trouble since all the heavy rain we had in S. Cal last winter.

I have a friend whose husband is a contractor and he has told me that this is soemthing tht I cna definately do myself and save lots of money. From what he says electrical outlets are done in loops ( still haven't figured out the system for the loops, but who knows what someone as thinking 100 years ago)

There are several outlets tht just seem to go in and out, especially when the weather gets wet. My plan is to buy about 6 new plug assemblies and reinstall them. I will tirn off the power at the circuit breaker and just start anywhere until I find the problem. I suspect that it is in the boys room. He told me that these can be easily damaged by pushing something into them. He also told me to handle the wires with one hand and there would be no chance of a bad shock!

You are a brave soul Robin, this is one of those things I'd be afraid to do myself. Please be very careful!!

My dad and grandpa are both electricans, and I have to say, I would not attempt it by yourself. This is one area to not skimp on money. You can get hurt, you can hurt others, it could short out, you could burn your house down, the possiblities are endless.
Just my two cents.

Make sure you cut off the circuits to the rooms you're putting plugs in. Other than that, I think it is pretty easy. I've watched my DH do it.

My dh did replaces all of our outlets when we moved in. They were old so he put all new ones in.... Myself I would never try it.

Did you try it? I would never try to but then I'm not mechanically inclined, lol. Dh has always replaced ours but now he is an apprentice electrician and has learned alot of things he used to do could cause a fire. If your sockets are getting wet then you definetly need to call an electrician. I hope you can get them working.

Gripey has been replacing all of our plug ins and light switches as we re-do each room. If you look up the instructions on the net and follow them step by step Robin, I have no doubt you can do this. Just be sure to flip the circuit breakers off before you begin.
