Okay, I admit it - my towels smell! :rolleyes: What can I use to get the mildewy smell out of them - or do I need to just get new ones?

It seems to help when I add vinegar and Clorox 2 to the wash! Dh uses them UNTIL they smell that way! Yuck! And definitely throw in the dryer!

Are we talking before or after they have been washed?

If they have been washed, but left in the washing machine overnight or longer :eek: they will start to smell :(

But if they are in use and are smelly, they need to be dried after EACH use to air them off and dry off the damp water off of them.

If they are damp and just hung from a peg, the air can not circulate and they will start to smell a little foisty.

We put ours over the clothes dryer rack for a few hours each day and they are fine.

Make sure that after washing they are ULTRA dry before putting away in a cupboard ;)

LOL! Well, they smell great out of the dryer until we use them, and believe me we really aren't that smelly. I think I have left them in the washer too long one too many times. :rolleyes: I probably need to bite the bullet and get some new towels. I can't remember when I bought the last ones and some of them I have resewn the edges. Hmmm....shopping???

A yucky thought, but are there any signs of animal intruders where you keep them. Both cockroaches and mice pee can do that. I've had that problem in several places in my home and have put out traps and poisons and things. You don't necessarily have to see mice poop (I often don't), but the pee smell is there and mice pee is very hazardous to health.

I would try washing them in vinegar. Then put some baking soda in the rinse. That happened to our towels before, so I did the vinegar and baking soda and it worked. Hope this helps! :)

Well, we have ants, but no mice or roaches. Our old decrepit cat pees on stuff if people leave it in the floor, but that is not what is amking my towels smell. I'll have to try the vinegar.
