Have you taught your kids organizational skills at all (if they are old enough).

As a child, my mom did everything. We weren't allowed to do anything because she had to have everything perfect. Hence, I'm not an organized person and what I do know I had to learn on my own.

Because I'm not a very organized person, its difficult for me to teach organization to my kids. Its such an important skill though that I want them to learn it.

Anyone have tips that you've learnt or done in teaching your kids these skills.

I hope to get this more under control. I'd like to fix the craft room (which I'm not even using really) into a bedroom for my older girl (8) so the girls' messes can be separated more.

I use those underbed boxes for storing off season clothes.

The girls are going away for almost a week starting Sunday (May 29) to visit their cousins in Dallas. I'm hoping to do some organizing while they are away as well as cleaning and repainting some.

When they get back, I plan to have family meetings and such to establish rules and start required chores they must complete before getting tv, desert, etc. Not sure how it will work.

One of the rules I hope to establish is they must pick up clothes and put in clothes baskets. Also, to put trash in trash cans. I'll need to do those with hubby also though as he does the same things.

I also grew up with a Mom who did everything....mostly because it was easier for her to do it than to wait for 5 daughters to get stuff done! I have fallen into that same mindset and now I am trying to change things......dd is almost 18 and I fear that she won't know how to do anything once she is out on her own!!! Ds is 11 and can be very lazy when he wants to be. I know they know the general idea and rules to being organinzed and keeping their "space" clean and picked up but they aren't good about staying on top of things.....I need to push a little more I think!:)

Mine also have their very own laundry hampers, they know that is where their clothes have to go and if they want their laundry washed they have to bring their hampers down! Once I have done their laundry I put it back in the basket and make them take it back upstairs to their rooms and they have to fold and put it away and I check and nag until it is done! They also have to have their beds made and they are responsible for keeping the bathroom they share clean. I'm getting better about all of this......it isn't their fault, I need to make sure they have more responsibility!
