Does anyone know if you can crochet a sample afghan? And if so, how would you do it. I'm assuming you would do it in rows. Heaven forbid if I had to do it in squares because it would take me a lifetime to figure out how to join them. :D
Anyone know?

CJ, squares are really easy to put together, you can use a mattress stitch, whip stitch or just crochet them together using a slip stitch or single crochet.
Are you thinking of an afghan to showcase different stitches? or more like a cross stitch/needlepoint sampler type?

Now Chriss, this is cj your talking to here. I don't have a clue as to what a
a mattress stitch, whip stitch is and I tried joining my granny squares together and it looked horrible.
I'm not sure what I'm looking for really. Just wondered if there was such a thing as a sampler afghan and how it would be done.
CJ, I have only ever seen 'sampler afghans' done in squares too. I think with changing stitches so much, the guage changes so to do it all in one would be very difficult.
This is the book I have http://www.leisurearts.com/crafts_needlework/item_detail.asp?item_num=555&search=1 , I have never actually made that afghan, but I use the stitches in it a lot to design new afghans.
How to do the whip stitch http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/joining.html
How to do the mattress stitch http://www.yarn-store.com/technique-seaming-row-to-row.html
and the slip stitch http://www.stitchguide.com/stitches/crochet/stitch_pages/cro_slip_stitch.html
HTH you some. Just holler if you need more help.

Dee, I couldn't get the links for the whip and mattress stitches to work!
I have that same pattern for a sampler afghan. I've never made it either but I use the stitches for other things. That's actually the one I was thinking of making for my BIL's wedding gift.
CJ, are you better learning with visuals or do you like to have detailed instructions? or both? I'm thinking of adding some tutorials to my website maybe you can be my guinea pig...er I mean tester ;)

If I see it in a tutorial I can usually figure it out if I have someone there who can help me if I can't get it. Instructions alone don't work for me.
I'd love to be your guinea pig....um I mean tester. ;)
I just tried them again Chriss and they worked for me. anyone else have a problem with them?
I would love to see your site too Chriss, got a link? :)

I'm really excited cause I just found out that along with getting high speed internet, I am also going to get a new (at least to me) computer. It is much better and faster than the one I have now and I will have my own internet access :D That means I don't have to transfer stuff back and forth between computers and I DON'T HAVE TO SHARE!! :D And I'm also getting a new (to me) digital camera all of my very own too! (heeheeehaaaahaha) My mom bought all new stuff to start her new business when she retires so she is passing her old stuff on to me.
That means tutorials, patterns, lots of work to do!
