They are both 60 1/2" W x 58" L
It's an oddly placed window in that there's only 22" from the bottom of the molding (that surrounds the window) to the floor.
Currently in the kitchen I am using vertical blinds for the window because I also have a glass slider with verticals.
In the living room I currently have drapes over lace sheers. I need to at least replace the sheer because my kitten used to like to hang from them LOL, and he ripped one side.

I guess I should describe the room I call my living room. It's probably what most call a "family room". We don't have a formal sitting room here. This room is where we watch tv and hang out as a family. There is a fireplace in there, sofa, loveseat, and entertainment center. Pretty casual.

how long are the drapes you have now? do they just come to the bottom of the window or all the way to the floor? in the kitchen, if you wanted to take down the vertical blinds, you could get a valance to go across the top and then a set of kitchen tiers to go at the bottom. you would probably need 2 valances and 2 sets of tiers because of the width of your window. and you should be able to find the teirs in a 36" length. sometimes you can find them in 42's but not very often. most valances are 15" long so with a 36" tier, they would cover most of the window but give you a little gap that you can look out. if you want a larger gap, get 24" tiers.
for your living room window, if the curtains come just to the bottom of the window, you might try getting new ones that come to the floor. most curtains you buy are 84" long, so you would probably have to mount the rods a little higher than the window, but if you use a valance or a scarf across the top, you won't see the wall behind the curtains when they are open. there are a lot of pretty sheers out there. different colors, laces, floral, etc. maybe just changing the sheer to something new and different will brighten it up for ya.
do you have a bed bath and beyond or a linens n things near you? both have curtain departments, and the sales people there should be able to help you come up with ideas on what to do without pressuring you to buy something. they should also have displays with different ways to use the scarves and valences. take your measurements with you. if you are going to replace the rods, measure from one side to the other on the outside of your moulding so you don't have to drill into your moulding.

I am embarrassed to say that I haven't given this much thought since I originally posted it. Still having issues. I still have drapes w/sheers in the living room, and they go to the floor. I think I am all set with that room for now because we're going to be getting new furniture soon, and I need to paint as well.
I am still at a loss for the window in the kitchen though. The window currently has vertical blinds, and is on a wall that is adjacent to the slider to my deck...which also has vertical blinds. Privacy is an issue for both of these windows/doors as we have neighbors all around us. So they are always drawn so people can't see in.
I'm not sure I can picture tiers and a valance on that window. I've never seen that setup on a window that wide.
Oh, and I have a window above the sink too. I have mini blinds on those and a valance at the top.
If an interior designer were to come in here, they'd be horrified LOL
Guess I need to study the JCPenney home catalog I got yesterday. I always seem to be trying to figure out window treatments.

What about Roman blinds for your kitchen? Depending on the size of the windows?
I have one of those french type doors in my kitchen that leads out onto the back porch and that's what the old owners left hanging on those doors.
Although they need to be replaced because one of them is broken, they look really cute.
When I replace them I'm defiantely going for a different color, she has burgundy right now and I don't much care for any shade of red.

Do they even come in sizes that wide? LOL

I still haven't figured this out. I did get new curtains for my bedroom...the insulated type with the blackout liner. Awesome so far :)

I bought navy tab top curtains for the kitchen window as well as a matching valance for over the sink. I will need to find another panel or something to layer under the curtains in the larger window, but that can wait until after Christmas. :)

Sounds pretty nice Michelle.
I still don't have curtains or blinds in my kitchen and my living room needs new ones. That's going to have to wait until we are finished with our decorating (hopefully in 09).

I also need to put up new valances in the kids' rooms (they're plain--one is cream, and the other is ivory). I have them, but I need to paint in there first. I hate painting. Actually I just hate the prep work involved...don't mind the painting itself (except for trim. I hate doing trim work) :)

What kind of painting you love, whether this one is oil painting or brush painting or you are a professional painter. If you are professional painter than will you please tell us in which theme you are interested. Is it nature or female or sun. Do you want to try roof painting as well.
Awaiting for your response.
