So this morning he was wailing for attention. I pick him up, start patting him, he's purring away...staying in my arms for a long time. I'm expecting him to squirm at any minute, but he doesn't, so I keep holding and patting...and what does he do? He bites my hand!! What's up with that? I've never owned a cat who "attacks" so much. Usually he does it to the kids. Now he's started doing it to Dave & me. Not cool. :(

Not cool is right. Maybe call the vet and see if they can give you any suggestions to stop it. Some cats have real attitudes don't they.

It's pretty common for cats to nip at the hand that they are loving on - apparently just as a menas of taking control. I thump mine on the nose (not too hard) when they do it, and they don't continue it after a few weeks. A cat who has not been "taught" manners can actually bite hard enough to cause damage, so don't take it TOO lightly. Squirt bottles of water are also good disciplinary tools for cats, but I tend to forget to pay attention to what else is in the path of the water, so am prone to damage stuff and don't use that method any more.

Hmmm, I used to have a cat like that. He was on Valium! No, I'm not kidding! He hated everyone but me! Eventually we had to give him away, he was spraying all over.
